Your Grandma Is Happy She Didn't Have Google

Sometimes when I think about the women of the past, I panic at the thought of these poor ladies never having google at 2 a.m to answer all their questions on why it seems they might have the only baby on planet earth that does not sleep.
But the more I think about this the more I find myself wishing I didn’t have google, or ChatGPT, or Claude, or whatever else, because these women had something better, something more comforting, something I wish I had every day of my life.
We are the most informed group of women in the entirety of human history. This is a fact. We have access to millions of pieces of knowledge at the tips of our fingertips. Any question we might have, there is another soul out there that has done us the service of answering.
And yet I find that most of us, including myself, we were deeply unprepared for womanhood and especially motherhood.
That is because, I believe, we have been informed about womanhood, but we have not been formed in it, we have been informed about motherhood, but we have not been formed for it.
Google can tell you why your baby is not sleeping. It can also convince you that your baby has a rare neurological disorder and that you have personally ruined their circadian rhythm forever.
Very helpful. Thank you, Google.
But information can never give you the peace, the rest, and the confidence that formation gives.
You don’t need more information, you need to be formed.
