Fat Husbands, Fat Wives
and the sin we often do not talk about
There are many sins we all call out publicly and boldly. We all know porn is evil and wrong. Pornography, lust, fornication, adultery, all of it evil, and all of it things we talk about, but there is often an issue in many christian circles that nobody wants to address, and those who do, well they often find out why nobody likes to touch the issue.
We all know and understand that under the christian moral framework that all things that stem from lack of self-control usually end up in the sphere of sin. One of the key teachings of christianity is that a person is to have self-control. Our nature is often sinful and we must fight against it daily. Being a christian is hard work, we fight against many, many, impulses daily, and gluttony, one example of lack of self-control, is one we need to talk about.
I read Aly Dee’s article yesterday on the topic of fat husbands and what a wife should and should not do to address this issue, if you want to read it click here. But she is the one who inspired today’s article. I have been inside christian circles for many years and this topic is something that many want to literally run away from. It offends people, it makes them mad, it makes them upset, all sorts of things, but if this is a matter of great sin, which I think it is, then how can we not talk about it? Our bodies are given to us by God, to take care of, to use for good, to use well, to keep healthy to the best of our abilities, and if our bodies are so important and so connected with our souls, then how can we not talk about this? We can, and we have to.
Now mind you, there is obvious nuance here, and we will go over all of it below in the audio, but I fear sometimes we use nuances as excuses to not deal with our flaws, and I am not speaking about this from a place of superiority, I was also once fat, I was obese actually. When I moved away to college I didn’t gain the freshman fifteen, instead I gained freshman fifty in only three months time, yes I know, it’s a crazy amount, how is that even possible? I don’t know, but I did it. I have been pregnant five times and have dealt five times with the weight gain that comes with each one. I have been on the other side, I am a foodie, I love food, and I really love to eat. So before you kill me, listen, before you get mad at me know that I was also on the other side, and I know how much hard work it is, but I also know how awful and how easy it is to be gluttonous.
